Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge that the land on which we work, on the stolen lands of the Kulin Nation, the ancestral home of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people. This country has been cared for by Aboriginal hands for tens of thousands of years, and it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
At Lotess, we recognise that we operate as guests on Country that was never ceded. The Birrarung winds through this city just as it has for millennia, the seasons turn as they always have, but the original custodians were violently dispossessed of their home. We cannot speak of Melbourne's story without acknowledging this fundamental truth.
We are deeply grateful to work on this sacred Country, but we understand that gratitude alone is insufficient. Justice will never be fully served for what was taken. Lives were lost, the cultures disrupted, the profound connection to country that was severed by force.
The impacts of colonisation continue to reverberate through Indigenous communities today, and no amount of acknowledgment can undo that harm.
As we build Lotess on this land, we carry the responsibility that comes with being beneficiaries of dispossession. We commit to conducting our business with deep respect for this country and its first peoples. We will listen to Indigenous voices, support Indigenous communities, and ensure our work contributes to a future where Aboriginal sovereignty is recognised and Indigenous knowledge is valued.
This acknowledgment is not ceremonial, it reflects our ongoing commitment to truth-telling and justice. We pay our respects to Wurundjeri Elders past, present, and emerging, and we honour the continuing connection that Aboriginal people maintain with this country.
